Sommer Homes Leadership

Joel Sommer

Founder and president of Sommer Homes, Inc., Joel is a University of Maryland graduate. After spending some time working for a residential builder, Joel followed his dream in 1974 and began The Sommer Company (now Sommer Homes). He started renovating townhouses in Capital Hill and Northwest D.C., and then built two small suburban subdivisions. When Joel started building custom homes and renovations in Bethesda and Potomac, he realized he had finally found his niche. Heading up Sommer Homes, Joel incorporates his favorite aspects of the construction industry: working hand-in-hand with clients, building great houses and renovations projects, and developing systems to improve all aspects of the building process.

Joel and his wife, Linda have been married for 40 years and share a love for traveling and fine dining.  Joel enjoys golf, photography, and is an avid University of Maryland sports fan.  They have two married children, Stefany and Scott and their greatest joy is playing with their four young grandchildren.

His extraordinary new homes, renovations and additions have been featured in such publications as Washington Spaces Magazine and Bethesda Magazine.

Tom and his wife, Kim, have been married for twenty-seven years and have two children, Katie and Daniel.  The family’s black lab, Pepper, travels to work with Tom on a daily basis and is his constant companion.  Tom enjoys playing golf, sailing, woodworking, and experimenting in the kitchen. He is also involved in several of his church’s ministry programs, his son’s lacrosse teams, and is an avid Maryland football and basketball fan.
